Soren's sore

Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Thursday lost assembly by-election from the Tamar constituency by 9,062 votes to Raja Peter of the Jharkhand Party - a constituent of the ruling coalition that had rebelled against the veteran politician.

When he became chief minister Aug 27 last year, Soren was not a member of the legislative assembly and needed to be elected within six months.

The amazing and most shameless thing is that he is yet to resign, even though this humiliating defeat could be the first instance in India of a sitting Chief Minister loosing a by-election.But then Soren is the epitome of all things that are wrong with Indian politics. He was even absconding like a pure criminal (which he incidentally is) when a court ordered his arrest as part of a murder trail.

The people of Tamar should be heartily congratulated for resoundingly defeating a murderer.
