Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday sanctioned a grant of Rs.200 million for the welfare fund of the country's elite National Security Guard (NSG).

'Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sanctioned a grant of Rs.20 crore out of the National Defence Fund for augmenting the corpus of the National Security Guard (NSG) central welfare fund,' the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said here Tuesday evening.

'The grant would be invested in fixed deposits by the NSG. This would enable the NSG to carry out welfare activities, including provision of ex-gratia,' it said in a statement.

The NSG had submitted proposals for ex-gratia amounts to its commandos who laid down their lives in the Operation Black Tornado against the terrorists who attacked Mumbai in November last year.
