Malnutrition because of beauty consciousness!

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's comments attributing high rate of malnutrition in Gujarat to figure conscious young girls and also because of people being vegetarian - is an utterly condemnable and foolish non-sense !

This is infact insulting Gujarati Women infront of international audience - because he made these comments when he was interviewed by a foreign media..

This only goes on to show how low politicians can stoop..

Arrogance or Ignorance or probably a I-Know-Everything-And-Iam-Always-Right-Attitude ??!

A very good verdict for India

The below news item is from times of India :

A Special Investigation Team ( SIT) court has awarded life term to BJP leader and former minister Mayaben Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi in the Naroda Patia massacre case.

The sitting Naroda MLA Mayaben Kodnani was sentenced to 18 year of imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and murder, while Babu Bajrangi was sentenced for life imprisonment till death.

The court also sentenced Mayaben to 10 year imprisonment for arson. The court observed that this imprisonment of 10 years will not run concurrent with the main sentence of 18 years, which means Kodnani will spend 28 years in prison.

The court in the order pronounced on Friday sentenced 22 accused to life imprisonment (14 years). Other seven were sentenced to imprisonment for 21 years. The quantum of punishment was not announced for one of the accused Suresh alias Shahjad Nekalkar as he was not present in the court.

The court also also sentenced the 31 accused to 10 years imprisonment for arson. The sentence would run prior to the main sentence and would not be concurrent.

The court named Kodnani, a sitting MLA and former Gujarat minister, as "a kingpin of riots" in Naroda area and sentenced her to 18-year life imprisonment after serving 10 years jail term under IPC Section 326 (voluntary causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

"Communal riots are like cancer on constitutional secularism and the incident in Naroda Patiya was a black chapter in the history of the Indian Constitution," the judge observed. The other seven who were sentenced 21 years of imprisonment included Naresh Chara, Morli Sindhi, Haresh Rathod, Suresh Langado, Premchand Tiwari, Manojbhai Sindhi Kukrani and Bipin Panchal.

The special court also observed that the incident was a black chapter in the secular democratic history of India. On Wednesday, the court had convicted 32 people and acquitted 29 in the biggest post-Godhra killings.

On February 28, 2002, 97 persons were killed in Naroda. As many as 94 bodies were found, of which 84 were identified. Three people are still missing.

Former Gujarat minister Kodnani and Bajrangi have been convicted under sections 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, amongst others.

Special public prosecutor sought capital punishment for the convicts, during the hearing for quantum of punishment. He argued that as the court had upheld the aspect of murder and criminal conspiracy, this was a fit case to be termed as "rarest of rare" and court should award capital punishment to the convicts. If the court wanted to be lenient then at least it should award minimum of 20 years of imprisonment to each of the convicts, he argued.

Opposing his contention, defense advocate Niranjan Tikani appealed to the court to show leniency towards the convicts, keeping in mind their family background and financial condition.

This is a very good verdict.
If we have few more judgements like these, where-in people who indulge in communal violence, arson, loot are severely punished, then it will act as a deterrent.

Hope this will be a lesson to other politicians as well..

Victims of 1984 riots still awaits justice.Perhaps if the perpetrators of that violence were punished severely, the planned communal violence in Gujarat would not have happened.

Any way better late that never..

Happy Onam

Wishing all Malayalees a very very happy Onam..

Onam is a celebration, a remembrance of the good old days..

Relatives get-together..Exchange gifts. Not every body does it, ofcourse :|

Still, it's a celebratory environment all around.

At this time, heart goes out to those who are in difficulty or in tragedy - like the people of Kannur (in Kerala) where a tanker accident claimed 3 lives. Many are still critical. Many houses got burned down..

Life is like that..

I mean, there is never a time when every body will be able to celebrate together..

Good times for some will be very bad times for others..

Any way, for those who are lucky enough to be happy, my wishes.Do good, think good. And be thankful to God for the good times.Because one never knows what will happen the very next moment..

For those in pain, hope God brings good times to them..Keep faith..Hold-on..

Just to Update the death toll info in this blog : (Updated on 02/09/2012)

The death toll as of today stands at 18.

After the tragedy, daily deaths are reported. The tanker accident has become a full-blown disaster..

A double victory

To add to the previous post - which was about India winning the under-19 world cup final - India won the first test against New Zealand by an innings and 115 runs.R Aswin took 12 wickets for the match..

Scores :
India 438.New Zealand 159 & 164.

For India, youngster Cheteswar Pujara had scored a brilliant 159 when India batted.

So, yeah, a DOUBLE, this victory :|

Super day for Indian cricket..

India - Reigning Champions

Indian cricket team winning the under-19 cricket world cup is a sweet news.Especially since this victory comes against Australia in Australia.

The victory is all the more sweeter because it was the Indian captain Unmukt Chand himself who led from the front with an unbeaten 111 to take the team over the Austraian score of 225, which was a good score considering that almost all important games in this tournaments were low-scoring games.

Hearty congratulations to all the team members and the support staff and more importantly to the BCCI as well.Seems the BCCI had a very good plan and was giving players all the exposure and training that was needed to be in good shape for this world cup.

Hope atleast half of these players, if not all, get a chance to represent India, some time in the near future.

Wishing them all the best.

Hope these guys work even harder and don't get carried away with this win.

Ultimate target should be not only to get to play for the senior Indian cricket team, but to have a very successful career with the Indian team, where-in they can bring lot more laurels for our Motherland..

Remember this : India is now the World Cup Holder both at the senior level and at under-19's.

Great..

Pot calling the Kettle black !

Let me say it first..The August 11 violence we all saw in Mumbai was highly condemnable and police should have acted effectively to put-down the violent mob...

Especially serious was the attacks on Amar Jawan Jyothi..

And every Indian should condemn it..And the guilty persons should be hunted down and punished..

Only problem with Raj Thackeray's MNS party holding a rally to protest against Aug 11 violence is  - he is the same person who has build a party which thrives on violent and some times fatal attacks on Indians from Bihar , UP and other states..

Images of MNS cadre holding Mumbai and other parts of Maharastra to ransom by their violent protests are still very much in memory.

Raj slammed the state police for inaction!!  haha...Is this a joke ??
When he and his party indulged in violence against fellow Indians, then also the state police's action was INACTION.. Keep that also in mind !!

If the state government and police had acted against his party's violence earlier, probably the August 11 thugs would not have had the audacity to attack our 'Amar Jawan Jyothi' Monument...

Why this open double standards ????  - You preach some thing which even you don't believe in??

Don't think that others are fools and that you are a great ' Nobel Prize for Peace ' prize winner !
That logic doesn't work..

So only thing to say to this politician is - practise what you preach !! OK?? - And from now onwards don't attack our Fellow Brothers..Our Fellow Countrymen..Once you do that, Ok fine, start preaching non-violence..

Train - A symbol of fleeing ??

Picture of a train reminds me of our brothers and sisters from North East who are fleeing from major cities like Mumbai , Banglore , Hyderabad , Pune , fearing attacks against them in the aftermath of the violence in Assam.

Special trains are running from all these cities to the N-E , carrying thousands of people..!!

No amount of assurances ,about their safety , given by the central and state governments , is bringing the situation under control..Rumours rule the Country these days and people believe rumours..

It seems people no longer have faith in what the governments says, especially since the governments have failed to pre-empt and control the violence in Assam and the retaliatory violence that was perpetuated in Mumbai..

Sad situation.

Let's hope our dear brothers and sisters from the North East shows more faith in the assurances that are given to them and stays back where-ever they are and continue with their normal life.

Let's hope the guilty will be punished , let's stay together..

No need to panic..

Hope, hope our Country emerges from this grave situation - at the earliest..! hmm..
