Racial attacks on Indians in Australia

Racial attacks on Indians, especially Indian students in Australia is deeply disturbing.

From all available reports,it seems these attacks are solely targeted against Indian Nationals and amazingly there seems to be no end in sight.

The reasons for these attacks have not yet been reported, even though the Australian police ,by now, might be knowing this from the interrogations being carried out on some of the suspects. It's better if Australia comes out in the open about the reasons for these attacks, because there seems to be a pattern in all these attacks. The fact that Indians alone are being targeted also need special probe.

I have many friends working in Australia as software engineers.I am worried about their safety and the safety of other Indian Nationals.Families having their near and dear ones in Australia might be having sleep-less nights these days.

The Australian government should deal with this situation very seriously and root out this menace.

They should also keep in mind that the continuous occurrence of these kinds of attacks on Indians is not good for India-Australia relationship.

Of course, nobody can blame Australia or Australian people as a whole for the violent racist attacks by a select few Australian nationals. But this is tarnishing the image of Australia as a peaceful and friendly nation.Precisely for this reason it's high time the Australian government act ruthlessly against these troublemakers.

The government might already be doing this, but let's hope they will be successful in bringing the count of reported/unreported attacks on Indians in future to ZERO.

Some of the images being telecast on news channels, of those Indians who were attacked, are very very disturbing.
Hopefully the Indian community in Australia will be very careful and will seek all possible peaceful measures to tackle attacks on them...

Unbelievable wastage of public money

Karnataka's BJP Government's health minister B Sriramulu is believed to have spent a whopping Rs 20 crore for the marriage of his 27-year-old MLA son, T H Suresh Babu.

Suresh, an MLA from Kampli reserved constituency, tied the knot with N Deepa, a middle class girl, with an extraordinary 40,000 people attending the mammoth ceremony at Bellary Cantonment on Thursday.

Four choppers to ferry VIPs from Bangalore to Bellary kept whirring in the sky all day.

The wedding hall hummed with 500 air-conditioners and more than 200 chefs dished out a culinary extravaganza.

Bangalore's political power shifted to this dusty sleepy district — including CM B S Yeddyurappa and his cabinet members.

Also in attendance were top politicians from Andhra Pradesh.

Spanning 8 acres, the wedding arena had a huge palace-like shamiana and a dining hall to accommodate 5,000 people.

There were also VIP and 'VVIP' halls.

All available lodges were booked for guests.

Organizers made sure there was ample parking space even as 20 generator vehicles were used for back up.

There was a choice of continental and Indian food and even though the reception area was jampacked, everything went smoothly.

VIPs were ushered in through a single door connecting two different halls while others were allowed to enter through the other side.

Also, more than 100 ACs were fitted around the reception hall.

Whether the blatant display of money power was from the public exchequer or from Mr.Sriramulu's own wealth,it's just an amazing wastage by a so-called public servant..!
As for we,the people of India, well, let's keep on electing people like Sriramulu again and again to represent us.And let politicians like Sriramulu keep on looting our Country's property again and again..

Part with Kashmir;Get UN seat

There are news reports in various news websites which goes like this:

The US should offer ‘strong and active’ support to India for a permanent UN Security Council seat in return for New Delhi agreeing to "genuine and enforceable concessions" on the Kashmir issue, a veteran American diplomat has suggested.

Cautioning the Obama administration against being ‘too enthusiastic’ in its effort to resolve the Kashmir issue, foreign policy veteran Howard Schaffer said American efforts in the region should involve ‘quiet diplomacy’.

Schaffer is a former US Ambassador to Bangladesh and has also served in India and Pakistan.

"Washington needs to look for ways to persuade New Delhi to accept an agreement that does not meet all Indian demands and involves genuine and enforceable concessions on its part," Schaffer has said in his latest book.

In "The Limits of Influence: America's Role in Kashmir," Schaffer said: "An offer of strong and active US support for a permanent Indian UN Security Council seat could be one approach worth weighing".

Well,India should spit at such an offer,if any such offer does come from America. To hell with a UN seat.We should not compromise an inch from our traditional position on Jammu & Kashmir. There should be no compromise on our territorial integrity and above all our National pride.Let America continue to keep the UN as its 'Keep'.

And let so-called American foreign policy veterans like Howard Schaffer go for a walk in the park..!!

Is America under Obama behaving like a pak stooge?

There is another report which came out today, which is that the US administration is nudging India to scale down its presence in Afghanistan — including pruning or closing down its consulates — in line with Islamabad’s demands.

This stand goes against US policy of the past eight years, when Washington wanted India to send troops to Afghanistan.

Delhi’s role in the rebuilding of Afghanistan, including infrastructure projects and integrated development projects, has not gone down well with Pakistan, which sees India’s strategic interest in its presence.

This effectively means that America wants India to stop all the developmental activities being carried out in Afghanistan by India, only to please pakistan.

America and especially Obama should remember that all these are not at all helpful for better Indo-US relationship. In fact this is pushing the relationship backwards and it's not good for America also.

India should stand firm and should not bow down to American pressures.

Our self destruction tendencies

A report in timesofIndia goes like this :

Punjab has incurred property losses of up to Rs 7,000 crore on account of the violence by followers of the Dera Sachh Khand sect,
according to conservative estimates arrived at by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

"Social tension in Punjab has caused a loss of Rs.6,000-Rs.7,000 crore of public property and pushed behind its investment prospects to a significant extent," Assocham said in a statement Tuesday.

Punjab has been wracked by widespread violence by followers of the Dera Sachh Khand sect protesting against the attack on religious leaders in a gurudwara in Vienna Sunday.

Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Phagwara towns of Punjab continued to be under curfew for a second day Tuesday. But the curfew was being relaxed for two to four hours.

In this connection, Assocham secretary general D.S. Rawat appealed to the state administration "to immediately restore proper law and order in the state, especially in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Ambala".

"Any delay in curbing the social tension might cause a great harm to the economy of Punjab," Assocham said.

Well, those who are indulging in this naked violence in Punjab for some thing that happened in Vienna should ponder over what they are doing. They are destroying their own property.A loss of Rs 7,000 crore is not a loss to the criminals who indulged in the the attack on religious leaders in the gurudwara in Vienna. It's a loss only to our Country,it's a big loss..

We have seen many instances of anti-nationals(those who indulge in destroying public property can only be called anti-nationals),indulging in blatant destruction of National property far too many times in recent past.

It looks like these anti-nationals were waiting for some thing to happen and this has become a trend..!!

It's high time we look towards effectively implementing laws to curb and eliminate these sort of mob violence and deal with such vandalism sternly.

When will our people, those who indulge in these kind of destruction of public property, realize that they are destroying their own property..!!

Why there is no self realization..mm..

This is after all our own Country,it's our responsibility to look after our Nation. The least we can do for our Motherland is not to self-destruct..!!

pak sees Indian hand yet again

"I think the Indian board's role in this whole affair of shifting the World Cup matches from Pakistan has been deplorable",Pakistani Sports Minister Pir Aftab Shah Jillani on Monday said implying that the Indian cricket board,BCCI influenced the game's world governing body's (ICC) decision in the matter.

There is an old saying,'We can wake up some body who is asleep, but we cannot wake up some body who is pretending to sleep.'This is absolutely true of each and every pakistani leader.

Does Mr.Jillani really believe that the world cup matches in pak was shifted out of pakistan because of the BCCI??

What about the blatant attack that happened in pakistan against the Sri Lankan cricket team?
Was that not the real reason??

No team was willing to go to pak,the terror capital of the world, even before that incident.Lankan players went there after they were promised the best possible security by pakistan. The whole world saw TV footage of the attackers walking away ever so casually from the site of the attack after their murderous assault, from which the Lankan players escaped miraculously..!!

The fact that till date no credible arrest or evidence against those who attacked the players are available with pak security agencies only point to their duplicity.

At one point in time some pak leaders said there was a credible Indian hand in the attack.Later they said there is no evidence for that claim.Again we heard they had evidence but after some days we heard them saying that they suspect an Indian hand but there is no evidence..!!!

Lot of confusion there, one can see...
In their over eagerness to put the blame on India, they are making a fool of themselves..

How on earth the ICC could take risk and compel any team, even a club team from some other country to go and play in pakistan, let alone international sides to play in pak, under the prevailing situation in pak,is some thing that all Pakistanis should ponder over.

As for India,we should just have a nice laugh at this latest empty balloon from pak.

Just to provide a glimpse of the conflicting statements arising out of pak, read below snapshot of a news item from net :
Pakistani cricket officials are making efforts to stage an exhibition Twenty20 match against India or Sri Lanka on the sidelines of next month’s World Twenty20 Championship in England to raise funds for the thousands of displaced people in the Swat Valley in northwestern Pakistan.

Two of the funniest election loss analysis ever heard

NO1:The rail engine symbol proved to be the Praja Rajyam Party's nemesis in the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, party chief Chiranjeevi said here on Saturday.
People did not vote for PRP as its symbol looked too tiny on the electronic voting machines and the voters could not recognise it,Chiranjeevi said.

Perhaps Mr.Chiranjeevi should seek help from BSP Chief Mayawati and get the Elephant symbol from her, which hopefully will be big enough for Chiranjeevi.
But,oh,she also did not get much seats..!Poor lady was aiming to be India's PM :)

NO2:Allies of the United Progressive Alliance who fell out with the Congress have been punished by the electorate and the Congress has benefited in the process, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani said on Sunday.

Ok,agreed, but then was the BJP,of whom Advani was the PM candidate,an ally of the Congress!
Am confused :)

Mirwaiz Umer Farooq wagging his tail

Adopting an unusually harsh tone, the chairman of the Hurriyat (M), Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, today described mainstream politicians as a “troupe of traitors,” and warned the government of India of another massive uprising unless concrete measure to resolve the Kashmir issue, pull out troops and repeal draconian laws were taken within two months.

Mr.Mirwaiz Umer Farooq is wagging his tail again.May be his terror masters from across the border has given him signals to wag his tail.Any way it's high time this traitor who is living in India, with all the freedom he can get to even threaten the Indian Nation itself, goes and stays with his masters in pakistan.

The sort of person he is can be understood by the very fact that his father was killed by pak sponsored terrorists and he still is a very loyal servant of his terror masters in pakistan. He dances when his master asks him to dance,he sings when his master asks him to sing,he wags when they want him to wag...and so on..

He is a mere puppet. An obnoxious creature.

For this person to threaten India with a 2 month ultimatum,it's really laughable..

One gets the feeling that it's about time our Nation starts getting a little bit tough to these kinds of irritants. We don't need these blatantly pro-pak agents living in our midst, enjoying all the freedom our Country is providing, and abusing our Nation day-in and day-out.The funny thing is these motley crowd,if they ever get a chance to live in pak,may not get even an iota of the kind of freedom they are enjoying here in India, considering the chaotic and terror situation in pakistan.

As for the 'Kashmir issue' which this pak stooge mentioned, the only issue is with his masters. If his masters stop the terror tap into Jammu & Kashmir, and to the rest of India, automatically the Indian Army will be withdrawn from civilian areas in Kashmir and all so-called draconian laws will be withdrawn. The Army is there right now to protect the innocent civilians.Even Mr.Farooq is being protected by the Indian Security Guards..!!

If there is no terrorism emanating from pak into India, there is no reason for India to keep troops in Kashmir,Simple..

So the key to the so-called "concrete measure to resolve the Kashmir issue",is with Mirwaiz Umer Farooq's masters in paksitan..!!!

Let him bark before them,if he has the courage (which he obviously does not have).

Obama's double standards on nuclear weapons

It's being reported that the American President Barack Obama on Tuesday said it is ‘absolutely imperative’ that the US take the lead in reducing the spread of nuclear weapons.

Obama’s vision for a world free of such weapons was the subject of a major speech he delivered last month in Prague.

Obama is reported to have said that the US must take the lead – particularly at a time when North Korea and Iran are developing nuclear weapons capabilities, nuclear-armed Pakistan and India remain in a long-running conflict and terrorist groups like Al Qaeda are trying to get such weapons.

“It is absolutely imperative that America takes leadership working with countries all around the world to reduce and ultimately eliminate the dangers that are posed by nuclear weapons,” he reportedly said.

OK.Well said.Good thinking. But then look at the other side and you will see a different picture.A typical American double speak..

Here is a small sample..

There are news reports pouring in that Pakistan is augmenting their nuclear weapons capability using the aid money provided by the US.pak trying to increase their nuclear arsenal manifold is a new development, after Obama came to power,at least that is what is being reported and it's a very serious development for India.

Obama administration, still, currently is in the process of sanctioning another set of massive aid to pak. This will also,at least a very large part of it for sure,go towards weapons development or procurement by pak.Or for stealing the technology,as they did with their initial nuclear acquisition..

Obama is talking about reducing nuclear weapons..!!
He could make a good beginning by stopping pak in this deadly double game.At least he must ensure that the aid money provided on humanitarian grounds are not misused.Who knows one day these pak weapons will end up in the hands of terrorists,God forbid..!

And about Obama talking about US taking the lead in reducing nuclear weapons the world over, well, who is stopping him.Let him put his words into action and there by lead by example. The first step is to start reducing the US arsenal drastically.

That will also enable his government to claim the moral high ground when they deal with North Korea and countries like that.!

The more you see Obama's policy towards pak,it does seem more or less the same compared to the previous Bush administration. The same miserably failed policies and tactics.US continue to provide millions in aid to pak with out any care as to for what purpose pak is using those aid money.

one has to say that the Obama administration's first 100 plus days in office has been most disappointing,to say the least, especially when you look at the kind of expectations he generated when he was running for Presidency...!!

Historic opportunity for Congress led UPA

Now that the election is over,it's imperative for the Congress led UPA government to move forward quickly and form the next government and settle down to the most important task of governance.
They should remember that by voting them back to power for another 5 year term, the people of India has kept faith in them and its a huge responsibility.

People of India,by and large are convinced that the incumbent government headed by the Congress party is the best possible option available at the moment for our Country.

The people have given their verdict and it's for Manmohan Singh and his ministry and for Sonia Gandhi and her party and their allies to ensure that India moves in the right direction in all fields in the next five years.

It's imperative for Mr.Rahul Gandhi and Mrs.Sonia Gandhi to understand that Mr.Rahul should not be a part of the Central government because there is a lingering danger that the Congress sycophants will see Rahul as the real power center in the government.

Rahul should continue to work for strengthening the party. If as some party workers say,Rahul needs governing experience and therefore should be part of the government, well,in that case,it's better if he becomes a minister may be towards the fag end of the new government's term in office or for a brief period.

It will be a good decision if Rahul concentrates on the party's revival in the Hindi heartland, especially in Bihar and in UP.

The fact that the Congress party has done spectacularly well in UP this time under his leadership is all the more reason for him to concentrate on party work and continue to improve the party's position in those crucial states.

Rahul does seem to be a pragmatic person,so hopefully he won't do any thing that will be detrimental to the functioning of the Government.

The world is still in recession mode and it's best to leave Manmohan to be in full charge of India's governance. It's clear that a reasonable percentage of the Indian voters thought that Manmohan Singh is a better choice to lead India than LK.Advani and the so-called third front crowd.

India needs stability and continuity and the Indian voter's decisive verdict against the pressure group of the Left Front is a pointer to that.

BJP sought votes on Strong leadership, security and development. In all these areas, BJP led NDA government's track record earlier was nothing to write home about.

Also now,it should be very clear for the BJP that, for them to be seen by the Indian public as a natural party of governance, they should get rid of the communal tag.Till that time, they might win state elections and they will have their strong areas, but they will never be a pan-Indian party and they will always be heavily dependent on strong allies to pull them to the magical 272 mark in the Lok Sabha.

Advani made the biggest mistake of trying to make this election a presidential style one between him and Manmohan Singh. It was absolutely a no-contest.Manmohan Singh was certified even by his strongest critics to be an able administrator with a clean image and he is credited with India's economic revival in the 1990s.

Advani's performance as Home Minister as part of the earlier NDA government was not really a good testimony to his or his party's claim of him being a strong leader.

Advani's campaign of ridiculing Manmohan as a weak PM day-in and day-out and his party's comments that the PM was a night watchman and that the PM always run to Sonia for each and every thing, even for those decisions related to governance, backfired badly.Indian public has always rejected such malicious personal campaigns.

People saw Manmohan Singh as a very simple, humble human being and a person of great integrity and his commitment to the Nation's development helped the Congress.

Ofcourse, there were also local factors that contributed to the Congress party's impressive tally of 200 plus seats,it's best performance since 1991.

Whatever the reasons for the verdict of the Indian voters, for the Congress party and the party led UPA,it's a huge responsibility and there is no reason for complacency or acrimony. If they fail to provide effective governance, the Indian public won't hesitate to re-think next time.

So for the Congress party,it's time for good governance and there should be no place for sycophancy. This is a unique opportunity for Manmohan Singh,Sonia Gandhi and Rahul to serve the Country and lead us in the right direction with out the fear of any major pressure group, and as some say, failure is not an option...!

As a last point, let me say,the Congress Party and it's leaders should be very careful and make sure that they behave well with all their allies and other parties and that they should not be seen to be arrogant. After all,the Congress is only 200 plus, still short of an absolute majority on its own. They will need allies and also a constructive opposition to run the Country effectively..

Yet Another Shock; This Time From France

Over 50 Indian passengers flying Air France had a "harrowing" time at Paris airport after their aircraft developed a technical problem and complained on Tuesday on reaching Mumbai that they were victims of "racial" profiling.

The passengers, who spent 28 hours in Paris, said they were confined to a lounge at the airport there from 10 pm on Sunday till 7 am the next morning and given "hardly any food and water".

The passengers, on their way to Mumbai from the US via Paris, said while the foreigners were taken to hotels shortly after their plane returned to the Paris airport due to apparent technical problem following a four-hour flight, they were taken to the lounge and given just a bottle of water and a sandwich.

Giving details of their "harrowing" time, one of the travelers, Vineeta Sengupta said, "No foreigner would have been treated like the way we were treated. People were lying down on the floor over there (at a place at the airport) where immigration takes place".

Accusing Air France of "racial" profiling, a girl passenger said that the officials there even had threatened that they would be handed over to the police if they did not stop protesting.

Sengupta said the 53 to 54 Indian passengers were later "huddled out" of the airport on a "group visa", which the authorities could have provided much earlier, and taken to a hotel.

No reason has officially been given for the delay.

Report from Press Trust Of India.

I fail to understand why we as a Nation does not protest very very strongly and vehemently to incidents like these. We,our government, should tell the world in no uncertain terms that such behavior would not be tolerated 'at all'...
If we don't,these things will keep recurring...!

We are not anybody's slave..
The French government should be made to realize this and if they don't apologize for such shocking behavior, they should be paid back in the same coin,no other way..!!

To hell with diplomatic relationships,if our Countrymen are not treated fairly..

Shocking events in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp

Ajay Jadeja's sensational revelation about racism directed against Indian players of Kolkata Knight Riders' camp is shocking to say the least.

Speaking of an isolated incident,Jadeja revealed how an Indian player,Ajith Agarkar, was asked to come off while fielding and when asked why he was called back, one of the assistant coaches, reportedly Andy Bichel, who is the bowling coach said, "You bloody Indian, you do as you're told."

The alleged incident happened about 15 days ago and the team's owner Shah Rukh Khan intervened and resolved the issue.

If these details are true,it's a stunning reflection on why the Knight Riders' performance in this IPL is sooo bad...!

The one important thing that's noticeable with all the teams playing in the IPL or The Indian Premier League is the fact that almost all the teams have foreigners as their coaching staff, which is pretty difficult to understand. It's hard to fathom how a former Australian bowler like Andy Bichel, who was not a regular in the Australian team when he was a player, ended up as the Knight Riders' bowling coach..!!
What is his credentials..!!
IPL being an Indian domestic event, should have been used to promote Indian coaches..

The fact that this year's IPL is being held in South Africa, doesn't make it un-Indian...

There is no need to look far to find out why players like Indian bowler Ishant Sharma, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders',continues to struggle in the IPL.Racism directed against Indians in IPL does not show either the Knight Riders' decision making body or the IPL top management or the BCCI in good light..

The senior coach of the Knight Riders',former Aussie coach Buchanan, had earlier, before the start of the tournament, made some ridiculous suggestions like multi-captaincy,as if he was presenting himself to be a very innovative coach..!

It was very clear that Buchanan wanted Savrav Ganguly, who was originally designated to captain the Knight Riders',out of captaincy and that was the only reason for that multi-captaincy suggestion. After making Brendon McCullam the captain, and ever after continuously loosing almost all of their matches, why the muti-captaincy policy is not yet implemented??

Now reading it with the latest racism stories coming out of the Knight Riders' camp, there seems to be some sinister minds at work.In such a situation it's quite natural to understand why Knight Riders' is lying at the bottom of the points table in the current IPL..!!

A big part of the blame for all this should go to the Knight Riders' team owner Shah Rukh Khan. Before the tournament he even engaged himself in a verbal duel with Sunil Gavaskar who commented about the negative impact of Buchanan's proposed multi-captaincy theory. And it will be interesting to know whether Mr.Shah Rukh Was part of the decision to make Brendon McCullam, who has not even captained New Zealand, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders.

The worst thing Shah Rukh Khan did was to leave South Africa,mid-way through the IPL,instead of staying with the team and throwing out those who were treating Indian players badly.

No foreigner should be allowed to tamper with the pride of Indians, especially in an Indian competition.

Sreesanth - An embarrassment to Team India

"Yeah, I think he is a particularly over-rated bowler. And so he was a great target for us to go at. He always loses his cool under pressure and I think it was a good example of that (in the match)," former Aussie international Mathew Hayden said.

Hayden hit Sreesanth for three sixes in the 17th over in his innings of 89 before falling to the same bowler in the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings Eleven Punjab. A furious Sreesanth gave a mouthful to the Australian when he was heading for the dressing room.

Hayden, however, refused to reveal what words Sreesanth had hurled at him.

"You don't want to know. It's just so meaningless. Mate ... I am a Test veteran and a one-day international veteran, I have got nothing to answer to him that's for certain," said Hayden.

It's diffcult to understand what Sreesanth thinks about himself. What Hayden said about him, that he is an over-rated bowler is absolutely correct. What Sreesath has done for India except the bad name he has earned for him and the team by his dirty and childish antics...

He has got into ugly spat with every other team against he has played. In almost all earlier instances he was supported by we Indians, mainly because he was representing India, even when we knew that he was the main culprit in most of those instances.

Now,it's time we change our views about him and stop supporting him at least when he does some thing wrong.Any body who watched the IPL match will agree that there was absolutely no provocation from Hayden.Hayden hit Sreesanth for three sixes in the final overs, which is quite natural in a cricket match.Batsman will try to score, bowlers will try to take wickets. That is what cricket is all about..

Sreesanth does not know this?
Nobody should try and score of him?
Is that what he thinks?

If yes,he does not deserve to play the game of cricket, that's to put it mildly..!!

If a bowler starts abusing a batsman when the batsman hits him for a six, well, then how the game can be called a "so-called" 'Gentleman's game'..!!

In this particular instance, what made his ugly outburst the worst is because of the obvious lack of any sense of sportsman spirit.Mathew Hayden got out after playing a great knock and instead of appreciating his effort,Sreesanth was seen abusing Hayden.Hayden just walked off with a smile..

It's high time either the Indian cricket authorities give a stern warning to Sreesanth about his constant ugly behavior on-field or he should not be picked to play for any international side in future and may be not even in any domestic side, till he mend his ways...

How can he play a cricket match if he thinks that no batsman should bat well against him..!!

It's ok,if there is some friendly chit-chat on-field between rival players, but in Sreesanth's case it's clearly not friendly and his showman style actions are an insult to the teams he represent..

In the last IPL season also,Sreesanth was involved in some spat with Harbhajan Singh resulting in Harbhajan slapping him and Sreesanth weeping on-field after the match. It's absolutely sure that the culprit then also, who initiated the ugly spat would have been Sreesanth.

May be all these antics are a part of Sreesanth's effort to stay in the limelight.Any way his bowling is not that great these days..

And I do feel it's about time the media in Kerala stopped glorifying Sreesanth just because he is a Malayali.I am a Malayali and I don't think we should support Sreesanth in all what he does. The media in Kerala should treat him as any other player playing for India or like any other Indian player playing in the IPL.There should not be any bias just because he is from Kerala.

We should not blindly support anybody, that will make the individual think that he is above all criticisms which will result in him repeating the same mistakes again and again.

Dalai Lama's Tribute to India

"The last 50 years have been the darkest period in the Tibetan history. There was a serious threat to the disappearance of the Tibetan people, their culture and their heritage."

"In such a time we found India as our second home.Because of the support of the Indian government, the state governments and the public sympathy, we had the opportunity to carry on the preservation of the Tibetan Buddhist culture, including our own language."

"It is important and it is my duty to thank India for what it has done for us in the last 50 years".

Emphasising his indebtedness to India, Dalai Lama -- the Tibetan leader in exile and Nobel Peace Prize winner also referred to the people of the host country as his Indian brothers and sisters and his gurus. He was addressing Indian Americans in the US.

As he travels around the world, the Dalai Lama talks about two major issues -- both of which he learned from India, he said.

The first is a commitment to human values, compassion and non-violence, which he believes are the essentials to build a happy family, county and world. The second is his belief in building bridges of harmony on the basis of mutual respect and understanding.

"I take these two commitments that I learned from India," he said. "The tradition of ahimsa is central to India's being. I consider myself to be a messenger of Indian values and I try and make those values known in the world. I know I have made a small impact in the world."

Homage to Indian Soldier from Kashmir

This post is a small attempt at paying homage to the 8 Indian Soldiers who died fighting our enemy.I do want to concentrate more on one among those Soldiers who was from the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

Shabir Ahmed Malik was among those eight Indian soldiers who died for our MotherLand in a gun battle with terrorists in Kupwara.
He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in the village of Dub,north of Srinagar, surrounded by thousands of mourners.

Shabir, 21, joined the Indian army after passing his 12th class examination. He studied at the Sainik (army) School at Ganderbal.
Shabir's family and neighbours are proud of his army service.

"He has become a hero. He died an honourable death. I am so happy, although I am also pained at his separation," says Mohammad Yasin, a neighbour and friend of the dead man.

Mr Yasin says he still regrets not being able to join the Indian army with Shabir.

"I too went with him that day. But only three boys were selected. I was not taken because I was over age. I still feel so bad about it.
"Even now, I have a passionate desire to do something for my country like Shabir has done."

Mr Yasin says that the moving send-off given to Shabir has inspired many more youths in the village to join the army.

"I am 28," says Showkat Ahmed. "I have never in my life seen such a funeral. Such death is pride-worthy."

Shabir's body was kept outside the "imambara" (Shia place of worship) and the villagers mourned beside it.

The coffin was draped in India's tricolour before it was carried to the graveyard.

Shabir's brother, Ghiulam Mohammad, says: "I wanted him to become a doctor. But he had a passion for joining the army and was determined to complete his graduation so he could become an army officer.

"He was patriotic from his childhood. He wanted to do something for his country. His ambition has been fulfilled."

The villagers have been sharing the family's grief as well as its pride in what Shabir fought for.

"Every family here is bereaved. Every family is mourning," one villager said.

One hope that Great Patriots like Shabir Ahmed Malik will inspire more and more Youth in the Kashmir Valley to join the Indian Army and fight for their MotherLand. Some people in the valley accuse the Indian Army of Human rights violations.Well,if they think so,let them join the Indian Army, like what Shabir Ahmed Malik did,and then they themselves will be their own guardians..

It's my humble wish that these 8 Great Men who laid down their life fighting for the Indian Nation will inspire us into looking at ways to do some thing for our Country..
